Davines “The Unexpected” – Rio de Janeiro 2025
A Global Celebration of Creativity, Sustainability & Community
When Davines chose Rio de Janeiro as the host city for The Unexpected – A Davines Hair Experience from 27–29 October 2025, the whole salon was a buzz(cut) about who would be going! After months of dreaming…. it was Amy Long and Jenni Smit who had earned their place at this global gathering through our Davines in-salon competition, securing two coveted spots among a select group of international talent. Amy and Jen – YOU DUNNNIT!
Watching Amy and Jenni enjoying Rio in their gorgeous pics each day was beyond wonderful. We so seldom get to see stylists in anything other than their natural habitat (scar!) and we love that we were a part of getting them there to enjoy beautiful Brasil.
Besides each day which had glorious events of their own… The actual Davines event opened with the Unexpected Show, an elevated showcase of international talent and visionary hair artistry. These shows are pretty epic and Davines global educators are very inspiring. They brought forward a wide spectrum of ideas: editorial colour interpretations, sculptural cutting concepts, texture inspired by natural elements, and sustainability woven seamlessly into creative expression. It all makes for a very good show especially once you add the music, the screams and whoops and the lighting! Amy and Jen said the show served as both inspiration and affirmation, a reminder that hairdressing is a discipline where craft and creativity meet at the highest level. We love that about doing hair.
Rio, with its glowing coastline and unmistakable rhythm, was burnt into the minds of our stylists and slowly the dream of actually going was becoming reality… for who though?!
Education continued the next day in the form of exclusive Look & Learn sessions, each delivered with the precision and generosity Davines is known for. The stylists were introduced to advanced colour placements, refined shine techniques, elevated finishing methods and business insights centered on sustainability and long-term client relationships. These sessions create space for genuine professional growth, offering both practical techniques and broader creative direction that Jen and Ames will no doubt bring back to scar.
As if all of that wasn’t enough … The Unexpected Party then brought stylists, educators and partners together in a setting that embodied Davines’ “La Famiglia” ethos — warm, expressive and grounded in shared passion. Stylists really do talk the same language and there’s not much more fun that a room full of them together! Jen and Amy connected and got to share with artists from across the world which is really something we love to encourage. There’s so much talent out there and its magic for so much talent to meet like this!
Throughout the entire experience, Davines would have underscored one of its most defining values: regenerative beauty. From environmental impact to conscious product development and responsible salon practices, the message is always clear and consistent, the future of professional hairdressing is sustainable innovation. The stylists returned, we are sure, with renewed intention to integrate these principles deeper into their own work.
They of course concluded their trip with some sightseeing in both Rio and São Paulo, returning home with fresh inspiration from two of Brazil’s most iconic cities.
For scar, their participation represented more than a milestone — it reaffirmed our commitment to growth, excellence and staying connected to the global evolution of hairdressing. Jenni and Amy’s experience in Rio stands as a testament to their talent, dedication and ability to shine on an international stage. We are so proud of these two and simply loved sending them off to Brasil for a well deserved creative boost, and a bit of a break too!
